Bengaluru: The newly established Greater Bengaluru Authority has announced a tough enforcement plan to tackle the city’s growing garbage menace. Starting soon, anyone who throws trash on public streets will have their waste returned to their own doorstep by officials — along with penalties. The rule comes after repeated complaints about littering in residential and commercial areas. Despite several awareness campaigns and fines, many citizens continue to dump plastic covers, food waste, and household garbage on roadsides. Officials say this initiative aims to make residents personally responsible for the waste they generate. With help from local ward teams and surveillance cameras, the civic body will track offenders. If caught, staff will identify the address and deliver the same garbage back, ensuring they dispose of it properly.Authorities believe this will send a strong message that public spaces cannot be used as dustbins. The campaign also includes stricter fine collection and increased monitoring in hotspot areas. City leaders have appealed to residents to cooperate, keep their surroundings clean, and support the movement towards a garbage-free Bengaluru. The ultimate goal, they say, is to build a “cleaner, healthier, and globally respected metropolis”.
