Breaking Tradition: Kallahalli Gollarahatti Welcomes Dalit Officer for the First Time

Hosapete: In a historic move, the residents of Kallahalli Gollarahatti in Kudligi taluk have broken age-old traditions and caste-based restrictions by allowing a Dalit officer to enter their village—marking a significant step toward social reform and equality.

This milestone was achieved through the efforts of Kudligi MLA N.T. Srinivas and the taluk administration, who worked together to challenge the long-standing practice of untouchability in the village. For generations, villagers believed that allowing Dalits into Gollarahatti would bring misfortune.

Recently, when a Dalit officer was assigned to conduct a survey in the village, locals initially refused entry. The officer reported the issue to Tahsildar V.K. Nethravathi, who then addressed the villagers directly, condemning the discriminatory practice as a violation of constitutional rights.

Educated members of the community played a key role in raising awareness among others, explaining the harmful nature of such outdated customs. Their efforts led to a unanimous agreement to welcome Dalits into the village, symbolizing a bold step toward inclusivity.
