Bengaluru: Member of Parliament Tejasvi Surya has strongly criticized the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for repeated delays and escalating costs in the construction of the Pink Line of Namma Metro.
While the Yellow Line was inaugurated recently and train services began on Monday, Surya voiced his concerns during an interview. He expressed disappointment over the shifting deadlines and ballooning budget of the Pink Line project.
Originally, the Kalen Agrahara to Tavarekere stretch was scheduled to open by September 2025, but it has now been postponed to March 2026. Similarly, the underground section from Dairy Circle to Nagawara, initially planned for June 2026, is now expected to be ready by September 2026.
Surya highlighted that these delays have significantly increased the project’s cost. What began as a ₹6,300 crore initiative was later revised to ₹14,000 crore, and now stands between ₹26,000 crore and ₹40,000 crore. He emphasized that this puts an unnecessary burden on taxpayers.
The MP also stressed the need to increase metro train frequency, especially on the Yellow Line, anticipating more trains by the end of the year. He mentioned ongoing discussions with Titagarh Rail Systems, the company responsible for manufacturing and supplying the trains. Two trains are expected to be delivered starting October, with a fourth train joining by the end of August.
