India Imposes Strict Restrictions on Imports from Bangladesh

New Delhi: The Government of India has announced stringent restrictions on goods imported from Bangladesh, completely prohibiting the import process through all land routes along the India–Bangladesh border.

According to official sources, all goods from Bangladesh will now only be allowed entry into India via Maharashtra’s Jawaharlal Nehru Port (Nhava Sheva). The move aims to ensure greater transparency and tighter control over border trade. Officials have confirmed that rigorous inspection and customs procedures will be enforced at the port.

This decision means that textiles, agricultural products, and other essential goods from Bangladesh must now arrive through a single entry point — a change expected to increase logistics costs for traders. While the government has not released full details behind the move, it is understood that the measures are intended to strengthen border security, curb smuggling, and reinforce economic policies.

Discussions have already begun regarding the possible impact on traders and consumers in border regions. Authorities are expected to introduce measures to address the challenges that may arise from the restrictions.
