Another Shock for India – Trump Imposes 50% Tariff on Imports

Washington, D.C. – In a strong response to India’s continued crude oil purchases from Russia, U.S. President Donald Trump has imposed a 50% tariff on Indian imports, delivering a major blow to trade relations.

President Trump has signed an executive order to increase tariffs by an additional 25% on goods imported from India. This means Indian exports to the U.S. will now face a total of 50% import duty.

“India is not our best trade partner. They do a lot of business with us, but we don’t do much with them. So we’ve settled on a 25% increase. But despite our warnings, India continues to buy oil from Russia, fueling their war machine,” Trump said.

He had warned just a day earlier that tariffs would be significantly increased if India did not halt its oil trade with Russia. According to Trump, India is not only buying large quantities of Russian crude oil but also reselling it in the open market for profit.

“Even as Russian tanks kill civilians in Ukraine, India shows no fear. That’s why we’re raising tariffs on all Indian goods,” Trump added.

This move is expected to have a significant impact on India’s export economy and could escalate tensions between the two nations.
