Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar has announced a new 1.5-kilometer tunnel road project connecting Esteem Mall in Hebbal to the Gandhi Krishi Vigyana Kendra (GKVK).
Project Highlights
- The project will be presented for approval in the next cabinet meeting.
- Construction is expected to be completed within two years.
- The tunnel will be built using advanced tunneling technology to minimize surface disruption.
This is the second major tunnel road initiative in Bengaluru. The first, a 16.75-kilometer tunnel from Central Silk Board to Hebbal, has already attracted interest from ten leading infrastructure companies.
Investment and Bidding Details
- The estimated cost of the Silk Board–Hebbal tunnel project is ₹17,698 crore.
- Bidding companies must invest 60% of the construction cost (around ₹10,619 crore).
- A bid security deposit of ₹44 crore is required at the time of submission.
- In return, the selected company will be granted toll collection rights for 30 years.
DK Shivakumar emphasized that these projects aim to decongest traffic, improve connectivity, and modernize Bengaluru’s infrastructure.
